Chainsaws are dangerous tools when used at ground level, which is why it is essential that the proper training is acquired before using a chainsaw at height whilst using a rope and a harness.
Please note this course is physical demanding and requires the carrying and movement of equipment in a woodland / forest environment.

The prerequisites for this course are:
- 0039-20, 0039-21 | City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Chainsaw Maintenance, Cross Cutting and Felling Small Trees up to 380mm
- 0039-22 | City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Climbing Trees and Aerial Rescue

Who is it for?
This short course is designed for those in the forestry or landscape industry who wish to be able to use a chainsaw from a rope and harness.
Certificate
On successful completion of this course, you will receive an NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Using a Chainsaw from a Rope and Harness from City & Guilds.
Duration
This course is delivered over 2 consecutive days + 1-day for assessment.
What will I learn?
- Operations prohibited by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO)
- Hazard assessments of tree to be worked on
- Ground staff briefing
- Risks and load bearing anchor points
- Use of tools in a tree
- Check and prepare the chainsaw for intended operations
- Different ways to send a chainsaw aloft to the climber`=
- The use of sewn tape slings
- Cuttings techniques
- Positioning for working in the tree
- Changing work position for cutting
- Remove limbs using handheld and free fall techniques
- Target pruning
- Legislative requirements
Assessment
You will be assessed by external and independent City & Guilds / NPTC assessors who will assess you by means of oral questioning and observation of practical tasks that you have undertaken during the training course
