This short chainsaw course combines:
- 003920 | Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting
- 003921 | Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Felling Small Trees up to 380mm.
The training is physical in nature and requires the carrying and movement of items in a woodland forest environment.

Who is this training suitable training for?
This course is designed for those who are novice operators with little or no experience of chainsaw usage or for those who are requiring official certification in the maintenance and safe use of chainsaws to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 regulations.
Certificate
On successful completion of this course, you will receive an NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting along with the Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Felling Small Trees up to 380mm from City & Guilds.
Duration
This combined course is delivered over 5 consecutive days with an assessment day to be confirmed.
What will I learn during the training?

- Understanding operator safety during chainsaw maintenance and operation of the saw
- Be able to carry out routine and periodic maintenance to the chainsaw and chainsaw cutting systems
- Be able to start and check a chainsaw
- Know relevant health & safety legislation and industry good practice
- Be able to safely crosscut timber that is less than the guide bar length in diameter
- Stacking crosscut timber

This unit requires you to already hold the 003920 Certificate
- Identifying the Risk Assessment & Emergency procedures on a work site
- Selecting, checking and preparing equipment required for safe and effective felling
- Safely and accurately felling and processing small trees up to 380mm in diameter using a variety of felling cuts.
- Felling leaning trees using a safe technique
- Removing branches safely in a manner appropriate to the branching habit
- Cross-cutting stems accurately and safely to a given length & diameter specification
- Stacking timber using appropriate manual handling techniques
- Taking down small hung-up trees safely using appropriate hand tools
Assessment
You will be assessed by external and independent City & Guilds / NPTC assessors who will assess you by means of oral questioning and observation of practical tasks that you have undertaken during the training course.
