Care of the Elderly Level 2 & 3

This huge sector supports the health and social welfare of people in their daily lives. The industry provides emotionally demanding but hugely rewarding careers with a massive scope for progression.

Overview

An apprentice working in Health and Social Care will assist senior care workers and social workers to provide care services in the NHS, private health organisations or care homes.

You will work in a customer-facing role and will need to develop excellent customer service skills. Working as an apprentice means you can put your skills into practice as you learn.

Course duration is 14-24 months depending upon level and age.

Course Content

NVQ 2 Care of the Elderly

Units include:

  • Communication & Record Keeping Skills
  • Moving & Handling of Individuals
  • Developing Knowledge & Practice
  • Providing Food & Drink for Individuals
  • Receiving & Storing Medicines
  • Supporting Individuals to Access & Participate in Recreational Activities


NVQ 3 Care of the Elderly


Units include:

  • Developing Own Practices
  • Promoting Effective Communication
  • Promoting Well-being & Protection
  • Promoting, Monitoring & Maintaining Health & Environment


Additional study

  • Key Skills - Application of Number and Communication
  • Certificate in Health and Social Care


How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed in the workplace and at College. The technical certificate has assignments and written assessments.

Entry Requirements

  • Employment / work placement in industry
  • GCSE Grade D in English and Mathematics is desirable


Career Progression

Specialising in: Residential Care, Care of the Elderly, Mental Health or Social Work.
