Please note - Tyro scheduled courses at level 5 require completion of the Level 4 Award as a prerequisite and are therefore delivered in a shorter time covering units M5.13 and M5.28 only.

This programme reflects the development needs of middle managers and share common features with the “Skills for Managers” programme to ensure consistency and coherence. It aims to assist participants in gaining the knowledge required by a middle manager, and to further develop management skills. It is delivered by trainers who have experience of management in practice.

Course Content

• Unit M4.01 Understanding the Management Role (common with level 4 Award)

• Unit M5.13 Planning for efficiency and effectiveness, including:

     • Mission and vision statements and involvement of key stakeholder
     • Setting priorities, objectives and using delegation
     • Performance indicators, planning and control mechanisms

• Unit M5.46 Developing and leading teams to achieve organisational goals and objectives, including:

     • Authority and power, responsibility and accountability
     • Motivation and factors influencing behaviour at work
     • Management of risk and learning from failure
     • Performance assessment, feedback and support mechanisms
     • Characteristics of teams, team members and team roles
