The aim of this course is to provide safe systems of work where asbestos is present. This course is classroom based to provide delegates with an understanding of the risks associated with asbestos containing materials and the legal requirements to manage this within commercial premises.

Prerequisites
There are no recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification.

Course Content

• Legal implications
  Overview of The Asbestos at Work Regulations
• The Hazards of Asbestos
  Different types – Chrysotile, Amosite, Crosidolyte, Amopholite, Tremolite, Hazard of respiration of airborne fibres, effects on respiratory system.
• The Survey
  Overview of types 1, 2 and 3 and application
• Assessing the risk
  What to do on discovering asbestos. Demolition work. Maintenance activities. Do’s and don’ts when work involves exposure to asbestos.
• Removal of asbestos
  Storing asbestos cement prior to removal. The Approved asbestos removal contractor. Managing the Contactor.
• Management and Risk control
  Limitations of damping down. PPE and RPE.
• Health Surveillance
  The need for respiratory system checks for those exposed to asbestos
